Two Airlifted from I94 Crash in Portage

Two brothers were air-lifted from the scene of a single vehicle roll-over on I-94 about two miles east of the Portage exit Tuesday afternoon. Indiana State Police Lowell Post says a driver said he swerved to avoid a car that started to enter his lane, and that's when the first car went off the road, overcorrected and lost control. Fatal Crash in Hammond

The Lake County Coroners office says a 47-year-old woman suffered blunt force trauma and was killed in a motor vehicle accident at Kennedy Avenue and Michigan Street in Hammond. The victim, identified as Shirley Webber, was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly before 7:30 Tuesday night.

Woman Walks Away From AM Rollover

 A Bensonville, Illinois woman walked away, this morning, with no injuries after her car rolled over three times, hitting a semi and concrete barrier wall twice.

Portage, Porter County-A single vehicle roll-over, this afternoon, resulted in two brothers being air-lifted from the scene.

The Valparaiso Police Department and Chief Michael Brickner honored three officers – Detective Sgt. New Signal Near IUN Being Activated Tomorrow

INDOT says a new traffic signal near IU Northwest in Gary is scheduled to be activated tomorrow. The traffic light is on Broadway, between 33rd and 35th Avenues, and it currently flashes yellow.  It's one of a number of steps taken over the past couple of years to address safety concerns regarding pedestrians crossing Broadway in the campus area.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says the State Road 49 bridge over the Kankakee River will be closed for about three hours TODAY (December 18 2012) between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., weather permitting, for inspection work. The Valparaiso City Council last night reports say voted six-to-one in favor of rezoning 118-acres on the east side of the city for a development that would include a business park and what's been described as a luxury apartment complex. Starke County Man Dies Cutting Trees

A rural Starke County man died Sunday after the trunk of a tree that he and his nephew was cutting fell on top of him. The Starke County Coroner's Office reports 69 year old John Nolen died instantly, due to massive blunt force trauma. The Coroner reports Nolen was attempting to guide the tree with rope as his nephew cut the trunk of the tree, when it fell on top of him, trapping him beneath it, just before 3:30 that afternoon.

Hebron PD Seek Public's Help in Dog Death

The Hebron Police Department is seeking the public's help after a dog was found dead in an animal trap near a residence located across from the town's community center earlier this month. Police report the dog, which was a Canaan-breed, was found to have suffocated in a trap that was baited, around 11:30 in the morning on December 8th, on the six-hundredth block of North Main Street, next to its owner's residence. Hebron Police say an investigation into the incident continues.

A 24 year old Gary man accused of attacking a man in the bathroom of the East Chicago South Shore Train Station last month is now in custody at the Lake County Jail. The Times reports Jawaun Woods was recently transported to Lake County after being released from an Indianapolis hospital for injuries received in a stabbing incident there earlier this month.
