Wood Burning Stove Changeout Pgm Announced

Northern Indiana Public Service Company has partnered with the American Lung Association and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to offer up to five-thousand-dollars in instant rebates to northern Indiana residents who change out or retrofit their older, high-emissions wood burning boilers, stoves and fireplaces with more efficient appliances. NIPSCO says residents of Lake, Porter, La Porte, Starke, Allen, Elkhart, and St. Joseph counties are eligible.

Prescribed Fire in Hobart Today

News Release: Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Fire Management staff will be conducting a prescribed fire in Hobart today (Wednesday Nov 28 2012).  The 178 acre Hobart Prairie Grove prescribed fire will be on the west side of Lake George, just east of Liverpool Rd and south of 49th Avenue, along the Lake County Parks' Oak Savannah Trail. Britta, a female German Shepherd, has been partnered with Officer Jason Hamilton since 2007. Rollover Tanker Crash at Toll Road Ramp

No one was injured but a rolled over semi on the entrance ramp to the Indiana Toll Road caused traffic to be backed up for hours on State Road 49. Indiana State police report at approximately 3:15 this afternoon. IN Meningitis Cases at 59

The number of confirmed cases of fungal meningitis in Indiana is now just shy of 60. The Indiana State Department of Health today reports 59 cases linked to epidural steroid injection used primarily for back and joint pain, with the death toll remaining at six. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website, at last check there are over 500 cases and and nearly 40 deaths contributed to the outbreak in the U.S.

Lake County Sheriffs Police say a Lake County teenager died early this morning from injuries received in a crash involving a pedestrian and an automobile at 85th and Parrish Avenues in St. John shortly after 5:30 last night.
