Groundbreaking was held this week for Valparaiso's new Public Works campus at 1855 Joliet Road. Public Works in Valpo is currently off Axe Avenue, in the 400 block of Don Hovey Drive just a little north of US 30 and east of Washington Street. City officials say the new grounds with a sign and paint shop, offices, maintenance facilities for both public works and utilities, salt barn and more, and will replace a “seriously outdated facility”. Mayor Jon Costas said the promised campus essentially a decade in the making was “long overdue”. Officials also said Valparaiso City Councilman Bob Taylor, who has long been a strong advocate for the new facility, couldn't attend because he is recovering from a heart attack suffered last Friday, and has asked to cut the ribbon on the new facilities this Fall.  [Photo/City of Valparaiso]
