Town officials say an Enbridge contractor struck a water main Sunday morning, and that caused a million gallons of water to drain from the south water tower. As of 5:50pm Sunday crews have reached the pipe and located an approximate 3 foot hole. There is still no time line with regards to repair completion. Many across town have experienced diminished water pressure. Griffith Public Works is working to manage the situation to maintain and improve water pressure, but restoration may not be achieved well into today (Monday).
Police say the boil order covered a larger area initially as a precaution and was lessened once the exact break was located.
Police say they have coordinated with Griffith School Officials and each school has been checked for safe and adequate water service, and at last word there was no change in the school schedule. Resident are asked to avoid calling 911 or the police department for updates, but rather to check the town’s website or the Police Department’s Facebook page for progress updates. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Griffith-Indiana-Police-Department/526691684035932?rf=151498071566102
