Porter County Residents Reminded of Snow Rule

Porter County Sheriffs Police are reminding residents of the county's snow rule as we're anticipating another major snow event, lake effect that could dump a foot or more on parts of the Region starting tonight and continuing into Tuesday. Public Information Officer Sgt. Larry LaFlower says county ordinance specifies that vehicles in unincorporated areas of the county must be moved off the roadway if there's two inches of snowfall or more so the plows can get through.  In the winter storm that hit the weekend of January 4-5, Sgt. LaFlower says Salt Creek Commons, for instance, was 'shut in' because of vehicles in the roadway and plows being unable to get through to clear the roads.

Sgt. LaFlower estimates 75 to 100 cars were towed over a two-day period after the winter storm that began the weekend of January 4th, throughout the county, but a lot of them came from the center part of the county on Division Road and quite a bit in the northwest part of the county.
