“Due to the challenging weather, Valparaiso City Utilities residents are experiencing frozen water service lines to their homes. This year, the Utilities have thawed over 25 residential service lines and continue to receive calls on a daily basis. Field division crews are working diligently until dark seven days a week until these water services are functional. The frost in the roadway has been measured at approximately 4 feet. We encourage customers to leave a faucet run at a trickle as this will keep water molecules moving, reducing the chance that pipes will freeze. Place a bucket underneath the faucet so the water can be saved for other household uses so that water is constantly moving in the service line. While the temperatures have been moving higher, that does not guarantee that the frost in the ground will reduce quickly. If you think you may have a water service line issue or need more information, please contact the Valparaiso City Utilities customer service center at 219-462-6174. We thank those affected customers for their patience.”
