Potential for Flooding, High Winds with Storm

Warmer temperatures and rain tonight and tomorrow could bring with it the potential for flooding. Associate Professor of Meteorology at Valparaiso University, Dr. Bart Wolf, says the combination of melting snow and potentially heavy rain could lead to flooding due to the foot of frost on the ground, and in addition to the water equivalent of two-to-three inches of snow pack, it does not give anyplace for the water to go. Dr. Wolf says another risk involved is the potential for some marginally-severe straight-line winds, with gusts of 40-to-50 miles per hour in the evening in some out lying areas.
Dr. Wolf says he doesn't expect any large scale severe weather threat for northwest Indiana, with any chance of hail or tornado activity taking place well to our south.
A Flood Watch is in effect for northwest Indiana from late tonight through Thursday afternoon.
