50 best hospitals
Community Hospital in Munster continues its track record of excellent patient care by being named one of America's 50 Best for the seventh year running. Healthgrades, the nation's leading independent healthcare ratings organization, places Community Hospital in the top one percent of hospitals nationwide, recognizing clinical performance among “America's 50 Best.
”Community is also the state's only healthcare facility to achieve this distinction.  Community's Chief Executive Officer, Don Fesko says that being honored, "for a seventh time shows how our doctors, nurses and support staff consistently incorporate their best efforts into everything we do."   Fesko adds,
“It means that we remain focused on the things that matter most to our patients including clinical excellence in a total caring environment.”
The hospital's press release continues on:

“Today, hospitals are working harder than ever to achieve quality care, which makes this distinction even more significant,” said Evan Marks, EVP, Informatics and Strategy, Healthgrades. “Consumers can have confidence that a hospital receiving the America’s 50 Best™ designation has demonstrated a steadfast organizational commitment to quality.”
Healthgrades’ America’s 50 Best Hospitals quality rating is based solely on clinical outcomes, recognizing hospitals that have demonstrated superior clinical performance over an 11-year time period. Hospitals cannot opt-in or out of this independent analysis. To be recognized with this distinction, hospitals must have had risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates low enough to place them among the top 5 percent in the nation for a minimum of eight consecutive years. On average, patients treated at America’s 50 Best Hospitals had a 23% lower risk of death.
The Healthgrades’ America’s 50 BestTM designation recognizes those hospitals that received a Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ for the most consecutive years.
To be eligible for the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, a hospital had to have been evaluated for its performance in at least 21 of 30 Healthgrades procedures and conditions, based on Medicare inpatient data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) database.
