Possible Buyer for Former Academic Site

There's a possible buyer for Purdue University Calumet's shuttered off-site Academic Learning Center off Broadway in Merrillville, but purchase details are still being worked out, and the name of the interested party was not disclosed, according to an article in the Times today.   In March of last year, in the face of a four-million dollar deficit, the university announced that the south Lake County facility, which opened in 2005, would no longer be offering classes beginning with the Fall 2013 semester. The two-story, 48-thousand square-foot building on Connecticut Drive was closed last June and put up for sale.   A week ago, Purdue Calumet in Hammond and Purdue North Central in Westville made a joint announcement saying they were in the process of developing a plan to merge administrative and academic oversight into one central office to maximize efficiency, while preserving the individual campuses which are about 35 miles apart.
