A member of the LaPorte County Council has apologized for comments posted on Facebook Tuesday after he received a speeding ticket for going 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on State Road 2. The Times reports Councilman Matt Bernacchi posted that law enforcement should focus on catching “real criminals” not harassing taxpayers. According to the article, the comment offended LaPorte County Sheriff Michael Mollenhauer, who stated the Councilman nor anyone else is above the law and that lives are saved by enforcing traffic laws and criminals are often caught during traffic stops.
