A two-and-a-half-million dollar renovation is planned for an iconic ten-story building in downtown Gary. Gateway Partners out of Hobart has purchased the Gary State Bank Building at 5th and Broadway with hopes of making it home to a bank again. The stately building, which features white marble in its interiors, went up over a century ago, about the same time the city of Gary was founded. The proposed redevelopment would include tearing down some nearby structures for a plaza, more parking, and a two-lane drive-thru. It's been home to many a bank, including Gary National, and most recently Chase, up until 2008. There are currently a handful of tenants in the mostly vacant building, including Fagen Pharmacy.
