Indiana Governor Mike Pence today announced he has requested federal grants for government and certain non-profit organizations in 49 counties due to the severe winter storm in early January. Governor Pence says, "the grants they are applying for would go a long way toward replenishing local government funds and directly alleviate further burden on local taxpayers.”
Northwest Indiana counties included in the Governor's request for federal assistance include Lake, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton. If approved, the grants would pay 75-percent of eligible expenses including debris and snow removal, emergency protective measures such as search and rescue and damage to buildings and equipment.
