All lanes of northbound I-65, five-and-a-half miles south of the Rensselaer exit, were closed for almost five-hours this morning as the result of a fatal crash. Indiana State Police Lowell Post reports two semi's were stopped in the right lane, one behind the other, because of a crash that had previously occurred, when a dually pick-up pulling a 50-foot Kaufman loaded with three vehicles failed to slow down and hit the back of the parked semi trailer at approximately 6:20am. Authorities report the impact caused the straps that were securing the vehicles to break free and all three vehicles were catapulted off the trailer. One vehicle landed onto the trailer and cab of the semi parked behind the first, a second vehicle landed in the grass and the third vehicle landed in the left lane.
State Police report the dually pickup's trailer pushed forward into the driver's compartment, which resulted in the death of the driver, a 41 year old Ohio man, who was pronounced at the scene due to blunt force trauma. The drivers of the two parked semi's were not injured.
