Two NWI Men Charged with Stealing Copper Wire on I-69

Two northwest Indiana men were arrested late Monday night and each charged with allegedly stealing copper wire from INDOT light poles in DeKalb County. Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post reports troopers were following up on a lead into a rash of copper wire thefts in and around the Fort Wayne area, when they observed a pair of men in the area of I-69 and State Road 8, around 10:40pm, walking from the interchange to their pickup which was parked in a nearby parking lot. State Police report the men got into the pickup and drove until stopping on the shoulder of the exit ramp from State Road 8 to southbound I-65, where both men then exited the vehicle and loaded something from the shoulder area into the pickup's bed.
After making contact with the men, 29 year old Ryan Self, of Chesterton, and 36 year old Jerone Dunams, of Gary, troopers observed ten rolls of insulated copper wire in the bed of the truck. A check of the light poles at the interchange found that the wire had been cut and removed from four of them. The estimate value of the wire taken is between two-and-three thousand dollars.
