An annual report on county health places Lake County at 77th. LaPorte was at number 72. Porter was nearer the top at number 14. Jasper was more in the middle at 48; Starke was at 88, and Newton at 49. The healthiest county in Indiana in the 2014 overall rankings was Hamilton, in the central part of the state; Tippecanoe, home to Purdue's main campus, rounded out the top ten. The rankings from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation looks at counties in all fifty states, rating them on a variety of factors, including income, employment, physical activity, obesity, access to health care and tobacco use.
