In Lake County, commissioners today unanimously approved borrowing 20-million dollars to cover the launch of the state-mandated consolidation of E-911. The funds will be used for construction and equipment cost, which includes putting together the primary call center in Crown Point and a backup location in East Chicago, the construction of two new communications towers, and portable radios for county officers and ambulance and fire services working in the townships.
Last month, the Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Motorola for the radio system, radios and sirens over 15 years.
