Police in Crown Point have filed conversion charges against a 23 year old Wheatfield man accused of stealing a diamond ring from the deceased's hands during a funeral service at Burns Funeral Home. Police report funeral home staff notified the family of the deceased after the wake that the diamond ring placed on the deceased before the wake was missing. A family member who observed Andrew Trumpus behaving overly emotional, and touching the deceased's hands during the funeral service, contacted Trumpus's mother, who Trumpus then admitted to, that he did take the ring, valued at 66-hundred dollars, and sold it to a jewelry store for 300 dollars.
Police report Trumpus has an active warrant out for his arrest and the ring has since been purchased back and given to the family of the deceased.
