Aerial Treatment for Gypsy Moth Thursday

Indiana DNR
Tomorrow an aerial treatment to disrupt the mating process of gypsy moths will take place in far northeast Porter County, just west of Westville. Indiana DNR State Entomologist Phil Marshall told the Region News Team one or more low-flying airplanes will treat the site which helps to slow down the progression of gypsy moth in that area. Marshall says the application being used was first used on the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore area, from Michigan City to Ogden Dunes, in 1999, and has been used in other instances in northwest Indiana ever since, posing no health threat to people or animals.
The aerial treatment will start in the early morning and continue until completed, weather permitting. For more information, including a link to a map of the treatment area, visit http://www.in.gov/dnr/entomolo/4531.htm
