Northern Indiana Public Service Company now estimates a total of 128-thousand customers were affected by Monday night's storms. The number of outages is down to about 15-thousand this morning. NIPSCO crews have been working around the clock to repair extensive damage that included more than 130 broken distribution poles, tree damage and 580 reports of downed electric wire. Nearly all parts of NIPSCO’s service areas are experiencing sustained damage and electric outages, but the remaining outages are predominately located in Elkhart, Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties. Many of those outages are across the Region, including Gary, Hammond, Hobart and Lake Station, Merrillville, DeMotte, Michigan City, Portage and St. John. More than 600 NIPSCO and contracted resources from throughout Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Missouri have worked to speed-up the overall restoration efforts.
