July is “Smart Irrigation Month” and the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, or OUCC, is offering tips to help Hoosiers save money and water this summer. OUCC Spokesman Anthony Swinger told the Region News Team that in many cases, more than 30 percent of the drinking water pumped by a utility goes toward irrigation, so do your watering in the early morning, between 4am-and-8am to minimize evaporation while maximizing saturation. Other tips include keep showers brief, shutting off the faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving, and to check for any leaks in faucets, toilets and the underground supply line, and if found, to fix them right away.
