BP Faces Possible Legal Action

A Merrillville and Indianapolis law firm are seeking five-million dollars in damage on behalf of consumers who bought bad gas from BP in four states last week.  Both law firms say they're filing the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Hammond and according to http://www.nwitimes.com/, the two law firms allege BP sold defective gasoline starting August 20th in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. Meanwhile, BP has located the source of the tainted gasoline at their Whiting refinery and the company says that it has fixed the problem. In addition, according to their website, BP has begun paying claims and is following up with consumers who have contacted the company. The site says the company has also setup a dedicated claims facility to speed up processing of consumer calls and claims. The company adds that any consumer who purchased off-spec fuel wishing to file a claim should call one of it's two consumer hotlines to speak to a claims representative.   The numbers are:  1-800-333-3991 and 1-800-599-9040.  BP says inquiries can also be made online at www.bpresponse.com.
