Representatives from Enbridge were in the Region Thursday providing information about the Line 6B replacement project, speaking at the Northwestern Indiana Planning Commission Environmental Management and Policy Committee meeting. Environmentalists and others have brought up concerns about risks that may be associated with the northwest Indiana work in light of the Enbridge pipeline oil spill in Wisconsin in July of this year and a larger one in Michigan two years ago. A couple weeks ago the Indiana Department of Natural Resources held a public hearing in Valparaiso on the project's possible impact on area waterways, like Deep River and the Little Calumet. Enbridge wants to build a replacement oil pipeline near an existing one that originates in Griffith and ends in Ontario, Canada.
