Authorities are warning area businesses and residents of two scams circulating from out of the same area code and location- 409 in Beaumont, Texas. Michigan City Police report the first scam targets businesses where receptionists or secretaries receive a call from a person identifying themselves as the “Yellow Pages” asking to confirm basic information or cancel an ad. The business then receives a bill. The second scam targets residents, with the callers stating they are updating Medicare cards and asking for identifying information, including banking information. Police say NEVER give personal information over the phone, to anyone, for any reason, unless you are calling them and know they are reputable.
