Haunted Houses are a big part of the Halloween experience now days, and authorities want you to keep safety in mind while visiting theses spooky establishments. John Erickson, Senior Public Information Officer with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, says they are working with the Indiana State Fire Marshall's Office to keep these venues safe and compliant with state law. Erickson says when your in a haunted house you want to be able to see exit signs, that they are free from obstructions, and to keep an eye out for extension cords or suspicious electrical issues. He says if you do not visibly see a certificate of compliance, ask to speak with management, and if they cannot produce one, the contact their office.
