A warm but windy day welcomed two significant events taking place in City of Gary. Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson accepted a donation of three ambulances from Calumet Township Trustee Mary Elgin. The ceremony was attended by a host of community leaders including Fire Chief Teresa Everett and city emergency responders from the fire and EMS divisions. "Our donation today is evidence of our support of citizens of Gary, the Mayor and her administration," said Elgin. "We have to help one another in order to move this city forward, and I hope everyone will embrace this mindset and do what they can to help." Freeman-Wilson echoed Elgin’s sentiments. "Trustee Elgin was one of the first to show her support when I first entered office, and I truly appreciated that," said Freeman-Wilson. "These partnerships we develop are all about the citizens and how we can best serve them." Chief Everett explained that the ambulances will stabilize the number in their fleet and allow for other equipment to be repaired when needed without the worry of being short in vehicles.
