Five people have now died in Indiana due to the fungal meningitis outbreak that has killed over 30 people, and sicked nearly 450 in the U-S. Dr. Marion Kainer of the Tennessee Department of Health told a Senate committee Thursday that finding the cause of the fungal meningitis outbreak after only 8 days saved lives, according to ABC News. For example, there were 81 cases in Tennessee resulting in 13 deaths. Dr. Kainer says if there had been a delay in the recall from NECC by 9 days in Tennessee alone they estimate by now we would have seen an additional 59 cases and at least 5 additional deaths there. According to the Indiana State Department of Health there are a total of 55 confirmed cases at last check.
