The deadline to order and take part in Merrillville's rain barrel program, is coming up. Matt Lake, Executive Director of the City's Stormwater Utility says the program encourages residents to conserve water by capturing and recycling it from their roofs for use on their property. Lake says a 55 gallon rain barrel collects about 20-thousand gallons of rain annually on average.
The barrels are available in a variety of colors, and cost 51 to 56-dollars. The deadline to order is September 5th. Lake says order forms are available at town hall and at the barrel manufacturer's website http://upcycle-products.com/
