A one-hundred acre ship wreck area, six-hundred feet offshore of Indiana Dunes State Park, was given the status of nature preserve today after final approval was given by the Indiana Natural Resource Commission. The J.D. Marshall Nature Preserve in Porter County will now be the first underwater preserve ever in Indiana. The ship sank on June 11th, 1911 and was discovered in 1979. A dedication ceremony has been scheduled to take place at the end of the month at Indiana State Park Park.
