The first Republican elected to countywide office in Lake County in half a century resigned Tuesday for health reasons. 77-year-old Lake County Assessor Hank Adams has been battling cancer for the past year. Adams was elected in 2010. Prior to taking on the role of county assessor, Adams served as St. John Township's assessor for 16 years, and was a town councilman in Schererville before that. A caucus of Republican precinct committeemen will be called within thirty days of the office officially being designated as vacant.
