A Portage High School student was arrested today for intimidation and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center after a fellow student informed school officials the teen was talking about bringing a gun to school and shooting students who were “arrogant and self-righteous”. Portage Police say the student in question, a sophomore, was brought to the office and an inquiry revealed he was not in possession of any gun, but claimed access to one at home. Police reportedly searched the teen's bedroom and did not find a gun, but his parent's reported having a gun under lock and key and that the child does not have access to it. Police Chief Troy Williams commended the student who initially reported the threat, as well as the swift action taken by school officials, and urged parents to talk with their children with regards to the importance of reporting a threat they may hear and to also monitor their children for changes in behavior that warrant a concern.
