The bill to guarantee death benefits to soldiers families is on its way to the President. ABC News reports, with little debate and just a voice vote, the Senate joined the House in approving the measure to pay death benefits to families of those killed in the military, which had been blocked by the government shutdown. Once signed by the President, it would relieve the Pentagon from having to borrow the money from a charity, as worked out by Defense Secretary Hagel.
Indiana US Senator Dan Coats, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued a statement today that he's pleased Congress has approved the legislation, saying, “military families should not be left out in the cold because leaders of the very country their brave sons and daughters died for are failing to govern.”
