Indiana 105 won First Place for Breaking News Story for coverage of the downtown Valparaiso fire in early March from The Region News Team. The station delivered a series of reports with updated information both in studio and on location from Laura Waluszko, Brent Brown, Jay Stevens, and Karl Berner.

X-Rock 103.9 won First Place for in the Newscast category that included coverage on the rescue of a young boy who had fallen into a sand hole at Mount Baldy in July anchored by Laura Waluszko. The station's newscasts feature local news, traffic, and weather information.

Indiana 105 also received First Place in the new category of Website/Multimedia for Indiana105.com. The website includes live and on-demand audio of station programming along with updated region news and the Region Newsmakers interview series that debuted in February.

“At Radio One Communications our goal everyday is to keep Northwest Indiana informed, educated and entertained,” said Radio One Communications President Leigh Ellis. “ Our staff with decades of experience thrives in serving the Northwest Indiana listener. To get rewards for the quality of work our staff does is a bonus. I can hold my head high to say, 'We have the best'.”

“It's a great opportunity for the broadcasters throughout the state, both radio and TV, to come together, and it seems like it just continues to grow,” said Dr. Joe Misiewicz, President and CEO of the Indiana Broadcasters Association. Dr. Misiewicz said it was the 26th annual, and they topped the number of entries, with 550, and the number of people in attendance was over 350, “representing dozens upon dozens of stations.”

Stations compete according to market size. The competition is open to all FCC licensed radio stations and television stations in Indiana.
