Voter Turnout Results for the Region

Only two counties in the region exceeded the statewide voter-turnout of 58-percent in the November 6th General Election. Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson reported today that voter turnout was down statewide from 2008's 62-percent, but equal to 2004's percentage. Lawson says absentee ballots comprised 22-percent of the total ballots cast in Indiana, down from 24-percent in 2008, but a dramatic increase from just ten-percent in 2004. Porter County had the highest voter turnout in the region, at 64-percent, with 21-percent voting absentee. Lake County voter turnout was at 61-percent, with 18-percent voting absentee. Turnout in Jasper and LaPorte County came in at 60 and 56-percent receptively, with 52-percent voter turnout in both Newton and Starke Counties.
