The city of Portage is transitioning to a new garbage pickup service in the next couple of months. The Times reports the new trash and recycling collection system launches in February, and residents will be receiving two 96-gallon totes starting in January – one for trash, the other for recycling. The Times says Portage is hoping the new system, and receptacles, will boost the recycling rates in the city. The report says currently only six-percent of residential garbage in Portage is diverted to recycling.
