Homeowners now have until the end of January to file the necessary paperwork to keep their property tax credits, after the Times today reported that the Lake County Auditor said she is extending the deadline, which was to be today, December 31st. Published reports say the state is creating a database to ensure no one is receiving more than a single credit the law allows for a person's primary residence, and that those who fail to fill out the necessary paperwork to verify their homestead eligibility face a tax increase if the homestead credit is removed.
